Canada Stands With Israel

Talk is cheap and actions speak louder than words. It is one thing to say you are a friend of Israel but standing with her shows you truly are. Such is the case of my country Canada and has been for over six decades.
“Sixty years ago, on May 11, 1949, Israel and Canada established diplomatic relations and began building a fruitful cooperation. Over the years our countries have stood by each other and have continually strengthened our commitment as partners and friends in many fields, including commerce, science and technology, culture, education, public safety and trade,” says Miriam Ziv, Ambassador of Israel.
It has been said that stamps are ‘paper ambassadors’ that spread the message of their country on letters around the world and in April 2009 both Canadian and Israeli postal administrations took part in a special joint stamp issue to commemorate strong relations and warm friendship between countries.In the latest headlines, Canada now says it views Iran as “the most significant threat to global peace and security” in the world and it has concerns surrounding the country’s nuclear program, its hostility towards Israel and its alleged military assistance to Syria. (See: Toronto Sun) And to put action behind these words, last Friday Canada cut diplomatic ties with the Islamic Regime of Iran by closing its embassy in Tehran and gave Iranian diplomats five days, expiring today, to leave Canada. As a Christian, I thank God for my government’s ongoing bold and courageous stand for Israel and it is because of this that we are so blessed as a nation today. God blesses those who bless Israel and curses those who curse her.
Genesis 12:3
And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.
And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.
Will other countries follow Canada’s lead? That remains to be seen but I pray they do as it is far better for a nation to be under God’s blessings than under His curses. I often wonder how many innocent lives could have been spared if leaders of nations had shown boldness and courage by standing up to Hitler in the early stages of his regime rather than hoping and waiting for him to make good on his empty promises. There is a time for diplomacy and there is a time to take a stand; now is the time to stand firm.
To my Canadian brothers and sisters in the Lord, now would be a good time to contact our Prime Minister in show of support and thank him for standing with Israel. We are so quick to criticize our government when displeased with their performance but seldom do we thank them when good and right is done.
Nearly two years ago I was prompted to write Prime Minister Harper to thank him for standing with Israel and to my surprise, he replied to my email. Letters are as follows:
November 9, 2010To The Right Honourable Stephen Harper, P.C., M.P.
Dear Mister Prime Minister,
Thank you for taking a stand with Israel even though it may have cost Canada a seat at the UN. The reward God has for you in taking such a stand far outweighs anything you or our country may have gained in getting that seat.
Based on how a nation treats Israel will determine whether they are blessed or cursed by God. Genesis 12:3 ‘And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.’
Today we are blessed and I pray that you will continue to stand strong and make wise decisions in the future in regards to governing our country.
Most sincerely,
Coreen Lebid

Thank you for your correspondence regarding my address to the second annual conference of the Inter-parliamentary Coalition for Combating Anti-Semitism. I appreciated receiving your kind words of support.
It was an honour to speak to parliamentarians from around the globe as they met to discuss the struggle against hatred and intolerance. Canada was very proud to host this meeting.
Please be assured that our Government is committed to standing against those who threaten the Jewish people and to combating the spectre of anti-Semitism as it spreads. We have a solemn duty to defend the vulnerable, to challenge the aggressor, to promote human rights and to defend human dignity at home and abroad.
Once again, thank you for sharing your thoughts regarding my speech.
Sincerely,
The Rt. Hon. Stephen Harper, P.C., M.P.
Prime Minister of Canada
1 Timothy 2:1-2
1 I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;
2 For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.
1 I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;
2 For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.
So go ahead and show your support as your words of encouragement may be just what is needed on a very difficult day in office. But most of all pray, pray and pray for our leaders. It just may be that God, in His mercy, will grant us the final stanzas of our national anthem…
“God keep our land glorious and free!O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.”
Until That Day…
Proverbs 29:2
When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn.
When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn.
