Brian had an issue with the big toe's toenail on his right foot after the conference in Cromer. It was thought that the simple removal of the remainder of this nail (mostly removed many years ago) would suffice, but he was told that he would now have to have the toe removed due to circulation problems (being diabetic). This is not the foot where the three middle toes were removed previously.
It was removed under local anaesthetic and the operation was a success. However, during recovery a cannula 'tissued' (the needle providing antibiotics to his hand came out of the vein and delivered to the tissue near his wrist instead).
This was extremely painful, but was finally sorted and he is now doing well. We trust he will be home from hospital soon.
UPDATE: As you know Brian has just had one of his big toes amputated. The operation was a success, although he has had quite a bit of pain, and he has been struggling with sleep.
Gilly spoke to me (Keith) to say that he has been a lot happier today and had a better sleep last night. They hope to have the results of an MRI very soon. If appropriate they might be able to do a balloon angioplasty procedure in this leg (the right one) so that he has improved circulation. If so, it is hoped that this will increase the mobility in that leg (currrently very poor) and also help the ulcer to heal faster.
Many Thanks again for your prayers for Brian, Gilly and Tim.
