CHURCHILL OR CHAMBERLAIN?
When Shimon Peres lost to Benjamin Netanyahu with a very slight margin in the 1996 election for Prime Minister, he, Shimon Peres, was interviewed the day following by Daniel Ben Simon from the Haaretz. These are the words with which Shimon Peres explained his defeat by Netanyahu:
[Excerpt from an interview with Haaretz journalist Daniel Ben Simon the day following his defeat by Netanyahu in the 1996 election for Prime Minister]
INTERVIEWER: What happened in these elections?
PERES: We lost.
INTERVIEWER: Who is we?
PERES: We, that is the Israelis.
INTERVIEWER: And who won?
PERES: All those who do not have an Israeli mentality.
INTERVIEWER: And who are they?
PERES: Call it the Jews. (Daniel Ben Simon, Another Land [in Hebrew], Arieh Nir Publishers, 1997, p. 13)
(Speaking to the Labor Party Convention in 1996) By the year 2000, we will overcome Hamas, Islamic Jihad and terrorism. By then we will bring a comprehensive peace to the Middle East. By then we will establish a just society, with a national income greater than that of England, and greater than that of France. You all know that everything that we say we will do, we will do. (Arutz Sheva News Service, March 25, 1996).
We achieved unbelievable things. We recognized the PLO, we brought in Arafat, we provided the Palestinians with land and authority. Nobody did it. When you are negotiating about peace, it is more difficult to negotiate with your own people.(Transcript of interview published in Al-Ahram Weekly, Cairo, December 2-8, 1999).
It is really incredible to read some of the comments Shimon Peres has dared to make over the years, especially in the light of the total failure of the by him so touted and orchestrated Oslo accords.
Even today he apparently has chosen to choose a fight with his old rival Bibi Netanyahu to whom he lost in 1996, when I read the words he dares to utter as reported in the Jerusalem Post (Wednesday 3 December 2014) where he is quoted under the heading Peres: There will be no peace or security with Netanyahu: "The challenge that Israel faces is to understand that peace will not come to us. We have to go to peace. Mohammed did not come to the mountain."
Yes Mr. Peres, that is exactly what this fooled politician, Neville Chamberlain from England, did at the very eve of the outbreak of war by Hitler and the Nazis - he went to the mountain - he traveled to Adolf Hitler in Munich to bring the so desired peace back to his fellow Englishmen and ... he failed!! It was Churchill who then in British parliament had the courage and clarity to see this peace charade for what it was. It brought war, not peace and he spoke these words: "We had a choice between shame and war, we chose shame but we shall get war" and what did the Haaretz-like British Times write in total blindness and arrogance about Churchill who was proven so right in history? Here are the incredible words the Times wrote in 1938 about him:
The war-mongers [Churchill and his supporters], those who would make war against another country without having counted the cost, ought to either be impeached and shot or hanged. There has never been a prime minister in the history of England who has in nine months achieved such agreements as those Mr. Chamberlain has made with Czechoslovakia, Italy ... and with Hitler at Munich. [The Times, December 15, 1938]
Ever since I assumed my present office my main purpose has been to work for the pacification of Europe, for the removal of those suspicions and those anxieties which have so long poisoned the air --- The question of Czechoslovakia is the latest and perhaps the most dangerous [obstacle to peace]. Now that we have got past it [through the Munich Conference], I feel that it may be possible to make further progress along the road to sanity ... I believe that good will exists, and readiness on both sides ... Our goal is to achieve the cooperation of all the nations ... in building permanent peace in Europe. (Neville Chamberlain, House of Commons Debates, October 3, 1938)
Not much has changed as far as Israel is concerned and the incredibly blind and arrogant comments of today's Israeli pundits and commentators. Just as Chamberlain's going to find peace in Munich did not bring peace but a terrible war in which 6 million of God's beloved people died, so Shimon Peres going to Oslo and concluding a deal with Israel's sworn enemies did not bring peace but endless strife, war and terrorism. The Israeli left nevertheless still believes in a self-deluded optimism that peace will come this way. 'Peace you make with enemies' Shimon Peres quipped, meaning we have on the road to this peace to close our eyes for all the inconsistencies and evil that these enemies still exhibit and therefore get away with because "peace you make with enemies."
This is historical nonsense and I often have wondered why so few among the traditional Jewish and pro-Israel politicians never found the words to challenge this faulty historical mantra. Peace you make with conquered enemies - not with sworn unwilling enemies. The allied forces made peace with Germany after they won the war, not before. Rudolf Hess who flew to Britain as Hitler's ruse for peace to get Britain of his back to give him more time to regroup his forces would have been welcomed as a hopeful peacemaker by Israel's left. The British government refused to even deal with him and put him in prison. How different than so many in Israel.
Reading the unrepentful words from Shimon Peres after all the debacle of the through him initiated peace moves, one can only hope that in Israel's next general elections the majority of the by us Christian Zionist beloved Israelis will not vote for false visions of peace!
Yes Shimon Peres wrote a book about his self-induced delusion about a - New Middle East - and a new Middle East has indeed come but not according to the vision and hope of Shimon Peres. It is another Middle East all right, where no peaceful partners have risen to the fore but cruelty and terrorist chiefs, a soon nuclear Iran, a devastating, cruel Islamic ISIS, a Hizbollah ruled Lebanon and a Hamas controlled Gaza. After the Israeli withdrawal from Lebanon, terror, not peace, has won and today about a hundred thousand rockets, more precise and more devastating, are ready to be shot over every city and town in Israel, including the possibility of Ben Gurion airport. Hizbollah and terror won, not peace, through Israel's leftist induced unilateral withdrawal from South Lebanon. This also was the result of Ariel Sharon's "disengagement" from Gush Katif in the Gaza Strip - not peace but Hamas and terror won.
How many more buses, restaurants, killings, acts of terror and wars does Israel have to suffer before we learn what we learned in Europe during the Nazi period: You have to win a war before you can win a peace, Mr. Peres! Chamberlain's deceptive belief and pursuit of peace resulted in a war which cost the lives of 50 million people, among them 6 million Jews. But how many Israelis will have to die because of this self-imposed arrogant blindness of our leftist leaders before we realize as the British belatedly did that you have to root out the evil and win the war before you can attain a peace. Then and only then we shall find ourselves in a New Middle East which the true prophet Isaiah already foresaw:
In that day there will be a highway from Egypt to Assyria, and the Assyrian will come into Egypt and the Egyptian into Assyria, and the Egyptians will serve with the Assyrians. In that day Israel will be one of three with Egypt and Assyria--a blessing in the midst of the land, whom the Lord of hosts shall bless, saying, "Blessed is Egypt My people, and Assyria the work of My hands, and Israel My inheritance." (Isaiah 19:23-25)
