Turkey and Trump

I just finished listening to Hillary’s acceptance speech. After Trump’s acceptance speech, she needed to hit it out of the park.

She didn’t.

What she did was to plant herself firmly as an establishment candidate. She promised to raise taxes. She spoke to her core constituency.
She needed to to more than that, while projecting an image of strength. She needed to shake off her ‘establishment’ image and break away from the growing realization that the policies of Obama were a failure.

She didn’t.

She needed to energize her constituency and bring a new vision of some brighter future to those who are sitting on the fence. She needed to establish herself as the bringer of real change. She needed to do more than push back against Trump.

She didn’t.

She failed.

We’ll see if she gets a bump in the polls, but I doubt it. The Clinton News Network (aka, CNN) will try to spin her message. The other networks will fall in line with that attempt, but they’ll fail.

Right, Trump controls the battlefield, and he’s on the road to win the Presidency.

Trump

I listened to all of Trump’s speech last week, too. He knocked it out of the park. He spoke to the hopes and dreams of everyone ‘sitting on the fence’. He firmly placed himself as ‘anti-establishment’, and he successfully made himself look ‘presidential’.
He did everything that he needed to do to set himself firmly on the road to Washington.

Trump succeeded.

Clinton failed.

Yes, the establishment will attempt to blunt Trump’s success and steal the election from him, if they can. But, there’s a limit to their ability to do that. The elites have only been able to steal elections when the races are close. They can do nothing when the vote goes too far in one direction or another.
If they MUST stop Trump, then they will need to use drastic measures, but I don’t think that they will do that.

Why?

Because Trump really won’t change much of anything.

Remember Reagan?

I do. Everyone loved Reagan, even when they were opposed to him.

Did America’s course change because of Reagan?

No. At best, the inevitable was delayed. At best. And, he was the one who brought us George H. W. Bush, which then gave us the son, W.
Reagan did NOT change the course that America was on, and Trump won’t, either. The only thing that Trump MIGHT do, is make America stronger. And, with all the evil that America has done – and is doing – I don’t think that this is such a good thing.

But, I leave all of that in the hands of God.

Turkey

I believe that a far more important event happened over the past two weeks:

The failed ‘coup’ in Turkey.

The coup was launched – as most coups are – while President Erdogan was on vacation, in Marmaris. Marmaris is nice, but I prefer Antalya – if I were forced to go to Turkey. Erdogan should have stayed home, if he didn’t want a coup.

But, he DID want this coup.

He called it a ‘gift from Allah’. And, he has used this coup to increase his power and control. And, he has taken advantage of this opportunity to accumulate power. He has purged the military and judiciary. He has grabbed control of MORE of the media and closed schools.
I find it strange that this coup was so poorly organized. They failed in every objective that they undertook, and I find that to be very strange. It’s almost as if the coup had been designed to fail. And, of course, it was.
Let me repeat that:

This coup was designed to fail.

Now, does it mean that the ‘coup plotters’ were ‘in the know’?

Not necessarily.

The best way to run a ‘false flag’ is to have people running the false flag, believe that it’s real. Nothing is more convincing than real sincerity. Fake events almost never work.
So, the colonels and captains thought that it was a real coup. The generals did too. Their soldiers thought that it was an ‘exercise’. But, some of the key players must have been secretly allied with Erdogan, and placed to sabotage the coup.

Remember to always as ‘Cui Bono’ – who benefits.

The other possibility is that this is yet another badly managed operation by the US Dept. of State. I kinda doubt it, but anything is possible. Least likely, in my mind, is the possibility that this was a real coup, and that Erdogan ‘miraculously’ survived the coup.
I believe in miracles, but not this one.

So, what will come of this ‘gift from Allah’?

First, Erdogan will turn away from NATO and the US.

We saw Erdogan do this before the coup, and some point to this turn towards Russia as a reason for why the coup was launched. Anything is possible, so we’ll hafta see.
What we HAVE seen are a number of ‘trial balloons’ floated in various Turkish newspapers. Each newspaper seemed to have a different ‘theory’ about the coup. And, it looks like Erdogan is running with the ‘theory’ that most Turks have accepted – that the US is to blame.
We’ll see how this plays out, but it looks to me like the anti-US rallies being staged at Incirlik Air Base point to where this is going.

Second, the Kurdish uprising will intensify.

Erdogan is ‘cleaning out’ the upper echelons of the military, and this will do a great deal of damage to Turkey’s effort to suppress the Kurds. Erdogan reignited the war with the Kurds to gain power, and that war will only intensify.
However, the Kurds cannot hope to succeed without outside intervention. Israel has been supporting the Kurds for a while, as has Russia and the US. But, I’m not sure that this will continue. We will need to watch this.

Third, Turkey will move closer to Russia and Iran.

Erdogan has been ruthless in his quest for power, and he will turn to anyone, anywhere to get it. And, he’s not ‘choosy’.
Right now the one with the greatest chance of helping him stay on top in Turkey, is Russia. Russia has the pipelines and the natural gas that Turkey wants, and Russia has proven willing to make the deals and the pipelines. Russia also has been a big threat to Turkey via the Kurds and the Armenians. A deal with Russia will remove that threat.
Iran would be a tougher deal to sell. Right now, the Gulf Arabs are allies with Turkey. The question is whether that will continue. The Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait and the rest of the motley sheiks are a bit unstable. We’ll need to see if they can persuade Turkey to stay on their side.
But, if Turkey has a place in Gog and Magog – and I believe that it will – then, expect Turkish and Iranian rapprochement.
All of this is leading to the fulfillment of prophecy. It will be Ezekiel 38 and 39 come to life. It will be Isaiah 30 and Zechariah 12 and 13. It will be Ezekiel’s Fire.

I truly hope that you will be ready for this.

THE LATEST "NEWS FROM ISRAEL" BY MY GOOD FRIEND DAVID HOYLE.

News from Israel  23^rd July 2016

Perhaps the most fascinating & disturbing events of the past month have been in relation to Turkey, its relations with both Israel & Russia & the chaos which has resulted from the failed coup. All this not withstanding the immigration problem & the threat to open the way into western union & annul the agreement made to close it's channels out for the refugees in return for billions of dollars!  The situation is almost impossible to analyse. 

It is not long since Israel agreed to renew diplomatic arrangements.  For years Turkey dictated the terms for an agreement with Israel.    It was a question of what Israel would agree to do, apologise for the Marmera incident, lift the blockade of Gaza & issue an apology to Egypt. They also required compensation.

The situation changed as Turkey's strategic situation worsened when peace negotiations with the Kurds broke down, as the Syrian war went on & it's relations with Russia deteriorated.  Now, Israel was able to set it's own conditions including the closure of the Hamas office in Turkey.  Regardless of spin, neither Israel or Turkey got all they wanted in the recently signed agreement.  Certainly Turkey can now send aid to Gaza but the blockade is not lifted. 

The deal signed is sufficiently ambiguous that each side could claim a victory of sorts.

Israel have agreed to an airport & seaport on an artificial Island off the Gaza coast but where would the finances come from?  Whether the agreement signed is worth the paper it is written on remains to be seen.

All this was followed by the ongoing coup.  Russia has expressed it's support Mr Erdogan but why?  They were previously at daggers drawn because of the shooting down of a Russian plane.  This would appear to draw Turkey & Russia closer together & might be in line with Ezekiel 38v1-6 which envisages an alliance against Israel including Togarmah (Turkey) & Rosh (Russia).  A careful study of Genesis 10 & the above passage indicates the area covered by these & the other nations mentioned in Ezekiel 38.  Comparing the areas covered by the nations mentioned in Biblical times & today's map gives insight which is well worth study & is very revealing. 

It is a study in itself but certainly Russia & Turkey will be involved in the Ezekiel 38 war.

How the Turkish failed coup works out remains to be seen but never forget that Mr Erdogan is an out & out Islamist & seeks to totally destroy the legacy of Karmel Ataturk  who founded the current secular state.  Already 70 000 have been arrested or sacked & who knows where it will end.  The organisers of the coup do not want an Islamic state & nor do thousands more who dare not risk their lives.  It is certainly not ended.  Thank God He knows the end from the beginning and His prophetic word will be fulfilled to the letter.  Watch this space!  With all this going on it is interesting that Mr. Netanyahu met with the Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, & Cypriot President Nicos Anastadiades & announced a mini alliance!

Brexit It may well be that the spectre of the EU falling apart may not necessarily be a bad thing for Israel.  Israel will not shed tears that the EU will pack a lesser punch without the UK.

There is little doubt that Europe influenced the UK regarding Israel & not vice versa.  Labelling goods from settlements was a case in point.  The recent failed attempt to arrest Tzipi Livni during a visit to London show the state of our European imposed laws.  In many European countries any one who fought in the Israel Defence Forces will be liable to arrest!  At least the attempt here failed but the very issue of the warrant speaks for itself.

Egypt Mr Netanyahu has agreed to cooperate with Egypt's president Abdel Fattah El-Sisi in finding a way forward for the Arab Peace Initiative which would give normalised ties with the Arab world in return for a full Israeli withdrawal from all land captured in the 1967 war.  This would mean a withdrawal fro the West Bank & the Golan & recognition of a Palestinian State along with settlement of Palestinian refugees.  Subsequently Mr Netanyahu told his Likud ministers he would never accept it.  It suits Mr Netanyahu, a master tactician, to keep good relations with Egypt as it sidelines the French initiative to impose a Palestinian State on Israel.

UN  For the first time the UN General assembly has elected Israel to chair one of it's 6 permanent committees, the Legal Affairs Committee.  Israel is without question a world leader in International law & fighting terrorism. 

Iran  The Iranian Chief of Staff of the military is now commanding Iranian, Syrian & Hezbollah forces in Syria.  All 3 can be seen in Ezekiel 38 in one way or another.

Europe  The 27 remaining nations in Europe are pushing for a European army.  With any implementation it would almost certainly relate to Daniel 2 & Daniel 7 & Europe's future involvement in the wars of Ezekiel 38 & Psalm 83.

Jerusalem  There was a bomb scare causing the closure of Jerusalem's light rail close to Jaffa Street's intersection with King George.  A man claimed he was carrying an explosive device in his bag. The bag was found to contain several improvised explosive devices. 

Nice  Mr Netanyahu slammed the Palestinian Authority for condemning the recent ramming attack in Nice while encouraging similar attacks in Israel.  Mr Netanyahu said, “In Israel the Palestinians praised the murderers & support them”.

US terror victims  The families of the 5 Americans murdered in recent attacks have filed a lawsuit against Facebook for failing to ban the Gaza based terror group Hamas.  Facebook, it states, has, “Allowed Hamas to use it's online social network platform & communications service to facilitate & carry out it's terrorist activity”.  

Jeremy Corbyn was criticised last week for saying that, “Our Jewish friends are no more responsible for the actions of Israel than our Muslim friends are for the self styled Islamic State”.

At the same event Ruth Smeeth, MP for Stoke on Trent was reduced to tears after being accused of taking Zionist money.  This believe it or not was at a meeting to confront anti Semitism in the party.  Mr Corbyn declined to intervene! 

France  Natan Sharansky stated recently, “Arab immigration to France and deep seated anti Semitism there mean that Jews have no future in France.  Violence against Jews in France is one of several factors for Jewish immigration to Israel”. He said.

Palestinian Authority An advisor to President Abbass said in an interview, “Wherever you find an Israeli slit his throat.  I am against negotiations meetings and normalisation in any form with the Israeli occupation”.  Five American congressmen wrote to President Abbass & asked him to fire Abu Al Einein but the PA President refused.

Gay Pride  The Major of Jerusalem did not attend yesterdays Gay Pride parade he said, “It was offensive”.  He went on, “It is not illegal but is troublesome to others in the city.

The Knesset  Has passed a bill allowing the assembly to oust a member deemed to be inciting against the state.  Mr Netanyahu backed the bill saying, “Those who support terrorism won't serve in Israel's Knesset”.  Some Arab Mks have recently paid condolences to families of attackers who killed Israelis.

Portugal  Requests by British Jews who are dependants of Portuguese Sephardim are applying for Portuguese citizenship.  Since Brexit 300 have applied compared to 5 before June 23^rd.  The law was changed in Portugal to make amends for the 16^th century expulsions.

Drones With Egypt's agreement Israel has several times taken out terrorists in Sinai using drones.  Israel are investigating as to why 3 missiles failed to bring down a drone over the Golan Heights last week. 

Belarus  A holocaust memorial in Belarus has been vandalised.  Yellow paint was daubed on a statue commemorating the mass murder of Jews in the Minsk ghetto where the Germans imprisoned 100,000 Jews.  50,000 perished there.

Mike Pence  The Republican candidate for Vice President has a long history of support for Israel.  Under Mr Pence's leadership Indiana passed a law that required the state to avoid doing any business with companies which boycott, divest from or sanction Israel. Israel he states is our most cherished ally.  He backs the security fence & organises the Indiana -  Israel business exchange.  His appointment has been welcomed by the Republican Jewish coalition.

Spain  How sad that the Galicia region has lost out on its planned direct El Al flights to Israel.  The city passed a BDS motion to ban it.  As elsewhere in Europe anti Semitism is alive & well in Spain!

Sound of the Shofar #101 July 25th, 2016

The land which you cross over to possess is a land of hills and valleys, which drinks water from the rain of heaven, a land for which the Lord your God cares; the eyes of the Lord your God are always on it, from the beginning of the year to the very end of the year. Deuteronomy 11:11-12 Arise, shine; For your light has come! And the glory of the Lord is risen upon you. For behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, And deep darkness the people; But the Lord will arise over you, And His glory will be seen upon you. Isaiah 60:1-2 “For behold, in those days and at that time, When I bring back the captives of Judah and Jerusalem, I will also gather all nations, And bring them down to the Valley of Jehoshaphat; And I will enter into judgment with them there On account of My people, My heritage Israel, Whom they have scattered among the nations; They have also divided up My land. Joel 3:1-2 It is clear that the world is descending into deeper (gross) darkness. Western Europe continues to be inundated with Muslim migrants who do not want to become European and certainly there are terrorist sleeper agents amongst them. While the European football championships in France were spared terror attacks, some days later on Bastille Day an Islamist terrorist killed 84 and wounded 200 with a truck ramming. Then Germany had four terror attacks in eight days. The carnage in Syria, Libya, Iraq and Yemen continues. The American presidential elections will be held in November and the two major candidates are incompetent and at least one of them is corrupt. The present US president, Barak Obama, is the worst president in recent history. His foreign policy has been disastrous and it has opened the door worldwide for the darkness to increase - in particular for more Islamic terrorism to affect the nations and for Russia to return to the Middle East in power. Obama’s domestic record is just as bad as his foreign policies. As the first African American president you would think that the opportunities for black Americans would have increased – the opposite has been the case. There are more black Americans living in poverty and out of work than before Obama was elected. Racial tensions in the USA are rising and Obama is partly to blame as his rhetoric has inflamed rather than soothed tensions especially between black Americans and the police. Russia is flexing its muscles (not just in the Middle East), in its attempt to regain superpower status. China is doing the same, especially in the East and South China Seas. The bureaucrats of the EU continue to overrule the sovereign rights of the member states and the moves to exit the union gain steam with the UK’s vote to leave. I believe Brexit is a positive initiative to reclaim British sovereignty from the EU. I do not believe that the EU is a God- inspired initiative. God clearly created nations with boundaries, not an amorphous European nation and culture. When the Most High divided their inheritance to the nations, when He separated the sons of Adam, He set the boundaries of the peoples according to the number of the children of Israel. Deuteronomy 32:8 And He has made from one blood every nation of men to dwell on all the face of the earth, and has determined their preappointed times and the boundaries of their dwellings. Acts 17:26 Freedom of speech in Europe and the USA is vanishing very fast unless you are a Muslim, a gay or a progressive. (Progressives are liberals on steroids. They proclaim free speech for themselves but deny those rights to anyone who thinks otherwise. Actually they are a modern expression of Fascism.) Trashing Christianity and Judaism is OK but speaking or writing against Islam or gays is a criminal offense. While the Muslims are still a minority in Europe they are acting like they set the rules. In the USA it is the gays and progressives who are setting the rules. While Islamic terrorists will not succeed in recreating a Caliphate, yet they have changed all our lives in very dramatic ways. Can you believe it? I can remember a time when air travel was pleasant and carrying a pocket knife (even on a plane), was not considered a crime. The world as we knew it even 20 years ago is no more and we will not be returning to it. With the world in such turmoil, instead of focusing on vanquishing bestial Islamic terrorism or on Iran’s and North Korea’s march to the bomb the western world’s obsession continues to be Israel and the Israeli – Palestinian situation. According to the latest surveys in Egypt and Saudi Arabia, the Israeli - Palestinian situation is at the very bottom of their list of concerns - if it is even on the list at all. Here we are talking about government and military professionals. The Arab Street still wants Israel to disappear but the governments of those two countries understand that Israel is perhaps the only positive influence in the Middle East. Churches, university student groups and various professional societies continue to encourage BDS (boycott, disinvestment, sanctions) on Israel, which some perceive to be the grossest evil and the greatest danger to world peace. Of course this occurs only in the “civilized western world”, not in much of the rest of the world. Actually Russia, China and India, to name just the largest countries, are rushing to do business with Israel, wanting joint ventures with us especially in security, agriculture, water and technology. Investment from China in Israel is booming. Can we stretch our faith to pray that someday they will change their voting patterns in the UN and stand with Israel? During India’s recent term on the Security Council, while they did not vote for Israel they did abstain on a number of Council resolutions against Israel. It would be a game changer if the US under Obama were to vote ”yes” on an anti-Israel Security Council resolution, while Russia and China vetoed the resolution. This is not likely, but we can hope and pray. While BDS has had little or no economic impact on Israel, it is a very fertile breeding ground for vicious anti-Semitism. University campuses are bubbling over with hatred for Israel. When we consider that these students are the potential leaders of their nations, industry, judiciary, education, etc., the implications for their nations are not good. While Israel is far from being a perfect nation (there is no perfect nation) the vicious hatred of Israel is not at its heart, anti-Semitic but anti-God. Joel 3:1-2 makes it very clear that out of all of His creation He calls Israel My land and that dividing His land is an action that brings God’s judgement. That is why when you are praying against dividing the Land of Israel you are not only standing with the Lord in the restoration of Israel, you are also interceding for your own nation not to be brought into the valley of judgement. While there have been many times in history when gross darkness has enveloped the earth, yet in the context of Isaiah 60 this darkness is at the time of the restoration of Israel and the Aliyah of the Jewish People. While the world descends into the prophesied darkness, the Lord promises that His light will shine on the nation and people of Israel. This is not because we are worthy, but because the Lord is a covenant-keeping God and His promises, made thousands of years ago, are still relevant to Him. However much we may suffer from the hatred of Satan and the peoples of the earth, Israel will survive and prosper both physically and spiritually, so that there will be a welcoming committee on the Mount of Olives when Yeshua returns. (Matthew 23:37, Zechariah 14:1-4). While most of you who receive the Sound of the Shofar are not Americans, I believe we should all be praying into the upcoming American elections. We have seen how seven and a half years of Barak Obama’s presidency have made the world a more unsafe place than before. While many people have complained about the large footprint that America has had on the world, yet the reality is that when no-one is keeping order, the world descends into chaos and the USA is the only country that is able to do that at this time. The next American president will affect not just the USA but the whole world. Libya is a good example. The British and the French wanted to remove Libyan President Moammar Gadhafi but they couldn’t do it on their own. They convinced Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to support their plans. Obama did not want to do anything openly and coined the phrase “leading from behind”. Gadhafi was a dictator but his country was functioning and was more or less peaceful having stopped threatening other countries. Now with Gadhafi gone, Libya is a rat’s nest of competing terror groups and is a failed country. It has become one of the main jumping off points for refugees and terrorists trying to enter Europe. That’s what you get by “leading from behind”. Syria is another example. Obama declared that if Assad used chemical weapons he would be crossed Obama’s red line. Assad used them and Obama backed away from his responsibility and his red line, and Russia marched right in. We don’t know, but perhaps if Obama had been true to his word the civil war in Syria might be over. It is sad that neither of the contenders for the American Presidency inspires much confidence for a change of direction toward a godly life. Yet as we are called to pray for government and rulers we need to take a stand in prayer. (If you are American you need not only to pray, I believe you also need to vote.) This is my take on the candidates: Donald Trump is loudmouthed, impolite and crude. He acts like a bully, and has already alienated many woman and minorities. However, the people who work with him paint a different picture – a man who hires people based on ability not gender or race. As his life has been in the business world, we should pray that, were he to win, he would surround himself with wise counselors and listen to them before making decisions. The man he has chosen as his Vice Presidential candidate, Mike Pence, has been a reliable friend of Israel and an unashamed evangelical. Hillary Clinton is a known political quantity. As a US Senator she was unremarkable but as Secretary of State she was a disaster. I’ve already mentioned Libya. Her “reset” with the Russians was a disaster and while she traveled the globe extensively she made no progress anywhere she went. Regarding her character, it has been documented that she consistently lied to the American people. Moreover, there are indications that as Secretary of State she favored governments and people who would then give very large contributions to her family’s Clinton Foundation. We have yet to hear the conclusion of this story of this possible corruption. The man she has chosen as her Vice Presidential candidate, Tim Kaine, is one of a handful of US Senators who boycotted PM Netanyahu’s address to the American Congress about the deal with Iran. Again more recently when many US Senators asked Obama to increase military aid to Israel, Kaine refused to add his name to that request. To summarize, we have a crude unknown – Trump and we have an incompetent and untruthful known – Clinton. Sometimes we are faced with the choice not between good and bad, but between not so good and even worse. How do we stand, withstand and keep praying (Ephesians 6:10-18) in this world wide descent into darkness? We need to keep in mind that this darkness has not only not taken God by surprise but that He has told us about it in advance. It is not the end, but a sign of the Lord’s imminent return. And there will be signs in the sun, in the moon, and in the stars; and on the earth distress of nations, with perplexity, the sea and the waves roaring; men's hearts failing them from fear and the expectation of those things which are coming on the earth, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken. Then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near. Luke 21:25-28  Lift up your eyes to the heavens, And look on the earth beneath. For the heavens will vanish away like smoke, The earth will grow old like a garment, And those who dwell in it will die in like manner; But My salvation will be forever, And My righteousness will not be abolished. Isaiah 51:16 Pray for: The Lord’s will to be done in His perfect timing. The American Church to understand the priority of praying into the coming elections and the necessity to vote. That we all may not neglect to stand our watch in prayer. The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make His face shine upon you, and be gracious to you; the Lord lift up His countenance upon you, and give you peace. Internal DNC emails released by WikiLeaks reveal Democratic party staffers seemingly annoyed at having to commemorate the Holocaust.

On May 5, 2016, Florida Rep. and then-DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz sent an email to two of her Congressional staffers as well as two DNC employees — newly-hired director of Jewish engagement Aaron Weinberg and senior communications director Ryan Banfill.

“We need to do a statement from the DNC. Is there a reason we haven’t?” Wasserman Schultz asked in the email, which had the subject line “Yom Hashoah statement.” Yom Hashoah, which is also known as Holocaust Memorial Day, began the evening of May 4 and ended the followed evening, May 5.

Banfill forwarded Schultz’s email to another DNC staffer, Kate Houghton. “Flagging for you. The chair is asking for a statement on Yom Hashoah,” Banfill wrote.

“We aren’t going to do statements for every Jewish holiday unless she wants to do them for every religious holiday and trust me, this Catholic can give you a list of them,” Houghton replied. “Also when she does an official statement it makes very little sense to have two statements out there in her voice.” Banfill appeared to send a tongue-in-cheek response: “This is about remembering the Holocaust. Never forget.”

“Yup… or Darfur or Armenia or Rwanda or Bosnia (which PS is where my husband served),” Houghton replied. “Does she want us to do one for each other those remembrance days as well?”

Elsewhere in the WikiLeaks email dump, DNC CFO Brad Marshall accused Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders of being an atheist who skates by on his Jewish heritage.

“It might may [sic] no difference, but for KY and WVA can we get someone to ask his belief. Does he believe in a God. He had skated on saying he has a Jewish heritage. I think I read he is an atheist. This could make several points difference with my peeps. My Southern Baptist peeps would draw a big difference between a Jew and an atheist,” Marshall wrote.

Marshall ultimately apologized for his “insensitive, emotional emails”.

“I deeply regret that my insensitive, emotional emails would cause embarrassment to the DNC, the Chairwoman, and all of the staffers who worked hard to make the primary a fair and open process,” Marshall wrote in a Facebook post, according to Politico. “The comments expressed do not reflect my beliefs nor do they reflect the beliefs of the DNC and its employees. I apologize to those I offended.”

Turkey-Russia Pact Threatens Western Interests in The Middle East

• In recent months the Kremlin has hinted that keeping Assad in power is not its primary concern. Rather its main objective in Syria is to keep its strategically-important bases in the country.
• This has led to suggestions that, in return for building closer relations with Turkey, Moscow might be prepared to do a deal whereby Assad is removed from power and Russia's military interests in the country are safeguarded.
• If that outcome could be achieved, then Russia and Turkey would be able to forge a powerful partnership, one that would pose a serious threat to Western interests in the Middle East and beyond.

The deepening diplomatic pact between Turkey and Russia represents yet another damning indictment of the Obama Administration's ability to maintain relations with Washington's traditional allies in the Middle East.

Western diplomats regard the decision by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to restore relations with Moscow last month as part of a carefully-coordinated attempt by Ankara to build a new power base in the region.

For decades Turkey, a key NATO member, has said that it wants to forge closer ties with the West, to the extent that Turkish diplomats insist that Ankara is still serious about joining the European Union.
